About Us

Building trust and serving the community of Bhavnagar with premium cooperative banking solutions since 1948.

Our Journey of Trust

1948 - The Beginning

Pre-Merger Era

The Bhavnagar state was merged with the old state Saurashtra in the year 1948. At that time there were 217 registered and active societies. The state was perusing a loan of Rs. 2,000. These 217 societies had 7,500 members with total deposits of Rs. 6,00,000 and advances to members were Rs. 10,00,000.

1949 - 1954

Co-operative Expansion

With the Mumbai State Co-operative Act in 1949, the Gohilvad District Co-operative Bank was established in Bhavnagar. In 1954, the Saurashtra State Co-operative Bank was formed at Rajkot. To parallelly develop activities, Gohilvad Dist. Co-operative Bank merged with Saurashtra State Co-operative Bank, conducting transactions across 14 branches.

The Establishment

Recommended by the Indian Government’s Rural Credit Survey and with the consensus of RBI, The Bhavnagar District Co-operative Bank Ltd. was established. We took over the management of the 14 branches of the Saurashtra State Co-operative Bank, driven by delegates deeply aware of local district needs.

Present Day

Extensive Network

Today, our network spans 90 branches across villages and towns. We are affiliated with 1,391 societies (626 agricultural and 800 non-agricultural), offering farm and non-farm advances backed by NABARD and G.S.C. Bank. We do our business by gathering deposits from the public and getting other finance from G.S.C. following norms under NABARD.

Our Core Purpose

"To provide finance with the lowest interest rate to everyone in undeveloped villages through cooperative societies, letting the poor develop themselves by being out of the burden of borrowing."

Thus, this bank is trying to spread and develop its business by increasing its cooperatives activities even to the complex and awkward villages with success and moves forward with trust and hope to connect more and more people with the cooperative activities.

Moreover, during the years 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, we were one of the rare banks in Gujarat pursuing advances with an interest rate of only 7%, topping the list of such banks. Till date, the advance with the lowest rate of 7% is being offered by us within the rules and regulation of NABARD.
